The Boston Architectural College, located in the heart of Boston’s historic Back Bay is surrounded by inspiring architecture, museums, performance venues, and colleges and universities. This is not only an environment that complements the study of design. It is an historically significant area where historical preservation is paramount. And so, when the college embarked on an energy efficient lighting project, retrofitting existing fixtures was a mandate.
“The College is on a mission to become carbon neutral, but we must balance that with preserving the history of the building.” Art Byers, Assistant Vice President of Facilities”
“The College is on a mission to become carbon neutral, but we must balance that with preserving the history of the building.” said Art Byers, Assistant Vice President of Facilities for the College. Leanne Gordon of WorldEnergy Efficiency Services, the firm that oversaw the lighting retrofit said, “Knowing the requirements of the Boston Architectural College, we were pleased to recommend the ThinkLite solution. ThinkLite’s LED replacements for fluorescent tubes were selected not only because we were able to use the existing fixtures, but because we also eliminated ballast and lamp maintenance and replacement for up to ten years.”
“Wattage consumption was immediately cut in half and we were able to provide an aesthetically pleasing quality of light,” said Gordon.
Byers remarked, “Being an architectural college, we are very particular about light intensity and overall color. We tested the lighting with students and faculty and determined ThinkLite’s lamps, delivering a 93+ color-rating index (CRI) provided a great solution.”
“Every retrofit project has its own particular requirements. We are pleased to be able to provide the Boston Architectural College with the right solution for each section of their building,” said Dinesh Wadhwani, ThinkLite CEO.
Gordon added, “The stairwells have recessed fixtures where we used ThinkLite’s four foot T5 LED lamps with great results. They are 50-75% brighter and provide an even color wash. In the College’s main two-story Atrium, ThinkLite’s exclusive dual shine lamps provide 360 degrees of light, perfect for the direct/indirect requirements of the space.”
“It is a real privilege to see the ThinkLite solution at the Boston Architectural College. “ said Wadhwani. “The College is an institution where comprehensive design, including lighting, is embraced. We are pleased that the ThinkLite solution provides a combination of light quality and energy efficiency to help the Boston Architectural College remain focused on its green initiatives while enjoying light that celebrates the ambiance and purpose of this important institution.”
